Jeux des Iles 2016 Mallorca - Coming Home
Departure day, Sunday morning Mallorca.
We are all getting ready to start the journey back home to Jersey today, my overall experience and opinion of the trip has been mixed. The players have enjoyed the experience of being part of such an international competition, meeting new people they have made friends with from other Islands and other cultures. They have also competed against and seen a very high standard of players they wouldn't necessarily meet in tournaments at home.
From my point of view, I was a bit frustrated and disappointed about the organization of the tennis event and the number of matches we played in. OK, the most matches anyone played was three, even the teams that won but there was such a chance if meetings had taken place and coaches had been part of meetings to organise the event differently.
I have expressed my opinion to the referee and other coaches have also said the same.
Overall, it is a brilliant idea and competition that the children have gained a lot of positives from and I know they will be talking about it for a long time to come.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the JTA for all their support for this competition and you the parents for your support and making this happen.
Your children have been a very easy group to look after and a pleasure to be with and you should be proud how they have conducted themselves throughout the whole trip.
I hope we can bring back some of the Mallorcan warmth and sunshine to Jersey.
